Native
hardwoods along the river bluffs display a wide
spectrum of bright colors during the autumn
season. Hiking, picnicing, and nature watching
are all popular along with enjoying local
restaurants. This peaceful scene is part of an
interpretive trail on private (Access Illinois
Outdoors) property near Kampsville, IL.
Fall bowhunting
for whitetail deer is one of our most popular
forms of outdoor recreation.
Youth
hunts for whitetail deer are held every October.
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources
provides one day of training to youth ages 10 to
15 along with their parent or guardian. Access
Illinois locates landowners who allow the use of
their property for this special shotgun hunt.
This past October, 84 youth harvested 17
antlerless deer.
Every spring a
similar youth hunt is held for turkey.
