Current Projects & Activities

Access Illinois Outdoors

The "Access Illinois Outdoors" program is a voluntary program making private lands available for various recreational activities including hunting, fishing, hiking, bird watching, camping, trail riding, photography, etc. The program has a dual purpose of providing rural economic development not only for landowners but for various businesses in the Two Rivers Area and guaranteeing recreation opportunities.

 

Western Illinois Sustainable Ag Society

This organization is supported by the Two Rivers RC&D Council. Tours are held each summer.

 

Youth Hunt

A special hunt for turkey and deer is sponsored for youth. Selected youth from Illinois are given classroom instruction and then taken on actual deer & turkey hunts.

 

Orr Research and Demonstration Center

The Two Rivers RC&D Council was involved with the formation of the Orr Center Research Farm near Perry, Illinois. A Swine Center is being initiated to meet the educational needs for those in the swine industry.

 

McCully Heritage Project

A 940 acre Tree Farm in Calhoun County is being used as an outdoor classroom for students and teachers within a 50 mile radius. There are over 12 miles of hiking trails, picnic tables, toilet facilities for the handicapped and a pavilion.

 

Two Rivers 4X4 Club

Each May, the Two Rivers 4X4 Club holds one of the largest Jeep Jamborees in the United States.

 

Boat Harbor Project

Along the Illinois River, there are few places to refuel pleasure boats. Two Rivers RC&D has assisted Browning, Illinois, with a boat harbor and restaurant.

 

Excess Federal Equipment

Over $2 million dollars of excess federal equipment has been located and brought into the Two Rivers Area to local fire departments for their use.

 

Deer Herd Management

The Deer Herd Management is a voluntary program to educate hunters & landowners to better manage native (whitetail) deer.

 

 

Wine/Grape Production Promotion

Assistance is being provided to the Illinois Grape Growers and Vintners Association and local grape producers to expand grape production in Illinois.
