Two Rivers RC&D is a nonprofit, 501 (c)(3) corporation. It was created through
authority of the Food and Agriculture Act of 1962 (PL 87-703). There are 300
RC&D's in the nation today, located in all 50 states and U. S. Territories.
Office Space, a coordinator, and a program assistant are provided through the U.
S. Department of Agriculture's Natural Resources Conservation Service. No
federal funds are provided for the operation of the RC&D Council.
In the past year, Two Rivers RC&D has completed
15 projects for a total cost of $209,640. Since 1972, the Two Rivers Resource
Conservation & Development Board of Directors has completed over 311 projects,
totaling a value of more than $43 million dollars. These funds were obtained
from federal, state, and local units of governments, as well as private
sources. For every dollar appropriated by Congress, the Two Rivers RC&D
has leveraged an average of $14 from other sources to support conservation and
economic development in our home communities. Currently, there are 44
projects in various stages of implementation in the Two Rivers RC&D Area.
Technical and financial assistance to
implement these projects have been provided by a number of state and federal
programs and agencies including the Illinois Department of Natural Resources,
Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, the state legislature, Illinois
Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, Illinois Department of
Agriculture, USDA’s Rural Development, Natural Resources Conservation Service,
the U. S. Forest Service, and Extension Service.
